Destiny. It is only a small part of someone’s story, yet most people just hope to have everything happen for them. Only one thing can make each person their own individual, free-will. Free-will makes each person in the world, their own individual with their own ideas. This novel shows just how essential free-will is to the existence of humankind. Most of the people in this book focus on their shows, focus on the drama around them that they do not have time to notice the little things. This society is not forcing anyone to think for themselves, so they have chosen to live in a world where they no longer need to do so. A whole society of people choose not to question life simply because they do not care enough about having a happy existence. The civilians have nothing unique about them, and they are only puppets of the government who are pulling all of the strings and telling society to do and how to think. Yet the people who live in this dystopian world wish to experience happiness all the time. They put themselves in a position to feel empty and all alone. If only they could open their eyes and see the beautiful world just beyond their fast cars and tv scenes, they might come to realize happiness goes far beyond simple and materialistic possesions. The not so innocent bystanders will always use distractions to fill a gaping hole inside their hearts and souls. Montag choose to question why he never feels happy and this event lead to him being willing to make the changes necessary to create his own version of satisfaction. Bradbury tells us that in order to be happy and not just a puppet to society, people need to be able to think for themselves.
