In “Fahrenheit 451”, a book written by Ray Bradbury, a dystopian future where books have been made illegal is presented. In the article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr, raises many questions about technology and its effects on society. It’s quite evident that we have become quite dependent on technology due to our overconsumption of it.
There are many dangers of technology, some are that it disturbs sleep cycle, makes people lonely and affects kids moods. People are very dependent on technology and use it often without realizing the consequences to their physical and emotional health. Screen time usage has shown that it disturbs sleep cycle and leads to exhaustion and confusion, and if not fixed, serious medical issues. Sleep is the way that the body resets and heals so that the next day the body can continue working correctly, if not properly rested the body can have trouble functioning. In “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury, Mildred watches a lot of TVs which doesn’t allow her to sleep so she has to take sleeping pills every night.

In today’s current culture, we live in a world where technology is present in almost every aspect of life. Most people can’t survive a day without their phone and teens commit suicide because they are being cyberbullied online. In Ray Bradbury 's “Fahrenheit 451” (1953) the main character (Montag’s) wife Mildred spends her days staring at television screens which are projected on the walls called “parlor walls”. The walls speak to her, Mildred and her friends believe they are living in a fake reality caused by the television and media. People in this dystopian society are completely dependent upon technology to live a happy life.
The 1950s was not only a time of a growing threat of communism and the fear of nuclear war, but it was also a time of increasing satisfaction in the latest consumer product: the television. TVs captivated the American public to the point where books were being forgotten about. Though books were still being bought and sold, some never made it to the shelf because of the growing amount of government censorship. The government not only censored books, but they also censored movies, content on radios, and other creative works. This censorship controlled what the American public read, watched, and heard, which in turn limited the information available to the public.

This causes the reader to examine their actions from a different perspective. Fahrenheit 451 was also written to show the importance of knowledge. It causes the reader to think of valuable questions about the need for the information located in books. Ultimately, knowledge is power.
