Faith is a powerful belief that not many people have and only in hard times is it at its strongest. With Corrie's faith in God she wanted to help all of the Jews that were hiding away from the Germans. That's because during World War 2, all of the Germans had a hatred towards the Jews and would try to kill them. So Corrie and her family did what they believed was right by helping them even though it was prohibited to help them and could lead to death if caught. In the Hiding Place, Corrie Ten Boom portrays through the characters that having faith in God in times of suffering will give a person the strength needed to survive. Since both her and Corrie were sent to the concentration camp for helping Jews, they have faced many hardships and were beginning to lose hope. However despite how bad it was, Betsies faith saw the good in things even though they were bad. Especially when she and her sister got assigned to a cell that was covered in fleas and Corrie began to wonder how they are supposed to live like this. However in response, Betsie told her, “ That's it, Corrie! That's His answer. ‘Give thanks in all circumstances!’ That’s what we can do. We can start right now to thank God for every single thing about this new barrack!” (Corrie Ten Boom 198) demonstrating her commitment to her faith and how she lives by God's word. Instead of being negative like Corrie, Betsies brought new light to the situation saying they should be thankful and patient about their situation since that is what God would want them to do. Besties applies God's words to her life, and sees things given to them by God as a blessing, and it is revealed later on that those fleas that Corrie had been complaining about, brought them the opportunity to read the Bible openly without the fear of being caught, showing that everything even to them is a blessing.
