Four hours. The queue was relatively short. We excitedly bounced up the hill to where we found our place at the end. Looking over the groups of emos, most wearing eyeliner like eyeshadow, we realised just how close we were. Three hours. I helped a group of girls (and a few of the boys) apply the bright red eyeshadow as i was already wearing it to show my support. The rain switched on and off like a light, as did the sun. one minute bright and clear skys, the next, dull and pouring water over the ever growing queue. Two hours. The queue moved next to the venue, only slightly out of the cold. We had gotten hot chocolate. It was the moment that I, and so many others around me, realise just how much these two people meant to us. To add to the sense of belonging we all felt, they then played their song ‘Fake You Out’. However i was only listening for the rap. Sure enough, it eventually came. The room felt silent as everyone awaited the last line. “Before you walk away there’s one more thing i want to say, Our brains are sick but that’s okay” The profound connection every audience member felt in that split second was indescribable and to attempt to explain it would only do that moment injustice. No string of words could properly elucidate the feeling coursing through each individual. The concert seemed to end too early. The last song played and a concoction of disappointed delight spread. We were beyond ecstatic of course but there was an aura of dispirit as we all knew we’d soon have to leave and return home.
