In Bret Harte’s “ The Outcasts of Poker Flats”, six people we banished from a town and were told to never come back. They travel so far and find a cabin and decide to rest up and wait until morning to continue the journey.They arise the next morning and find out that one of the members had taken all the horses and supplies and didn’t tell anyone. They stay at the cabin and it begins to storm and they are trapped in a blizzard with no supplies and no horses. Finally, they starve to death as a result of no food to eat. This assignment allows us to insert one piece of modern technology to help them survive in the midst of the snow storm and them starving. I would give them instant hot cocoa, the hot cocoa would warm them up and it would release more antioxidants into the human's body whoever drinks it. This modern piece of technology is also exceptional for them as a result of it releasing flavonoids into the body as it is consumed. They could find a cup or bowl of some sort and put the melted water or snow in. Then, they can mix the instant hot cocoa in and create the hot cocoa. Finally, they can separate it and drink the hot cocoa and fill their stomachs up and give them a little energy. Instant hot cocoa is a substance that is just made up of cocoa powder that you add hot water to proliferate it hot cocoa. There are plenty of different ways to proliferate hot cocoa, but I figured that the instant way was the easiest way for the characters in the story. Another way, then instant would be to add one-fourth cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, one-half cup of granulated sugar, one-third cup of water, one-eighth teaspoon of salt and a couple drops of vanilla extract. I figured the instant would be easier as a result of them not having measuring cups and utensils like that in that time
