Fall of Rome The fall of Rome had many contributing factors. During the fall of Rome, many new things were getting introduced like new religions, new leaders in a short amount of time, and wars. It was very hard for Rome to sustain a society so eventually, it fell. The fall of Rome happened because of the rise in Christianity, excessive military spending, and political corruption. The rise in Christianity was one of the major reasons why Rome fell. This is because Christians were spending their money on places other than the Roman empire and they refused to fight for Rome. “Many Romans put their money toward church buildings rather than the empire” (Guided notes). This evidence shows that it was more important to Christians to spend money on things such as church buildings and temples, where they spend lots of time, other than military purposes. Empires were using all of the money on the military other than society and had to raise taxes to pay their soldiers.“Military spending left few resources available for other vital activities like public housing or maintaining roads” (Guided notes). This shows that spending too much money on the military left no money for the citizens or other needs. They only used the money on the military and left society with none. They had no money to focus on other needs in society. “In order to pay for the soldiers, emperors had to raise taxes” (Guided notes). This tells us that the empire was taking more money from the citizens and giving it to the soldiers. The taxes should have gone towards society but were used to pay the soldiers and left the citizens with nothing.
