For my family assessment, I decided to interview one of my sister’s friends. For privacy reasons, I will use her initials MW, her daughter’s initials MAM and the daughters father initials JM. The interview process was not as difficult as I thought it would be. Before beginning, I told the mother to relax and that I was going to ask her questions about her daughter as well as the whole family. I made sure to say that everything was confidential, which made her feel a little better about the whole thing. During the interview, I was sitting across from her at the kitchen table and her daughter was playing near us with some of her favorite toys. The mom did know most of the information I asked her. There was some stuff she had to think about or …show more content…

Throughout the interview, I did not just ask the questions straight from the paper, but instead I tried to talk to MW and get to know her as well as get the information I needed. After the interview, I felt relieved that it was completed, but also, I felt a sense of pride in what I did. One is Erikson and the other theorist is Piaget. For psychosocial development(Erikson), MAM would fall into the stage of Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. This stage is when the child can separate parent from caregiver, imitates people, shows affection, happy when playmates are around, etc… During this time, the child wants to do things by himself/herself. As far as MAM goes, I believe she meets this developmental stage, she wants to be able to crawl vs. being picked up, she shows affection, imitates people, and from what her Mom told me she loves playing with a little girl at her brother’s baseball practice. The second theorist Piaget created stages based on cognitive development. Piaget believes that children 0-2 years old are in the stage called sensorimotor. During this stage, the child learns through trial and error. He/she also learns that even if an object cannot be seen, it is still there. Also, the child uses all their senses to explore the environment. As I observed the child in her own environment, I did notice that she used her senses to explore the environment. When she was crawling on the floor and see something, she would pick it up, look at it, and try to get it in her mouth before getting caught. You could also tell she was learning her environment by trial and error. When she stood up holding a chair and wanted to get down, she tried 2-3 times
