The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how the therapist applies psychoanalytic and cognitive- behavioral theory to the presenting problems of the Vargas family. The therapist will apply appropriate intervention to the family to help with their current problem they are experiencing. The therapist will focused on two main presenting problem of the family and support them by applying the proper intervention. The therapist will also provide what interventions she would plan for the next session she meets with the family.

Bob bas the superego personality which think his son is okay and nothing is wrong with Frank. According to Parker and Hook (2008) “A psychoanalytic view of the link between the present and the past has immediate resonance with recent critical work on the history of the present’ in psychology.” Therefore the view that Bob is experiencing believes that his parents have more past experience and have worked with children behavior like Frank and believes nothing is wrong with him. Bob is in denial because he thinks his son’s behavior is normal because he is smart and the teacher does not know what is doing. Elizabeth is focusing on the cognitive and needs to modify things for Frank in order for his behavior to change. Frank is being very active because there is not a lot to do at home, he gets bored and distracted very easily. Elizabeth is focusing on the cognitive behavior of Frank and this is why she also has marriage problems with Bob, because she thinks that the problem is Frank and this is why she keeps on arguing with Bob often. According to Driessen et al. (2017) “Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the psychotherapy method with the best evidence-base in the treatment of depression.” As a result, Elizabeth might be experiencing depression because she would rather spend time by herself then going to church with her family.
