Introduction:
“Family support programs are community-based organizations working with children, families and caregivers to enhance strengths, to build capacities and to promote healthy development” (FRP Canada, 2002). We all need to be able to acquire support when things get hard in our lives. The support we receive from families, friends and support centre plays a strong role in our wellbeing. No matter how tough or happy we are, we all need help from time to time. Many times, the support we receive from outsiders contribute great benefit to our lives as they might not be emotionally attached. One major source of support for families comes from organizations that are located in our communities. To complete this assignment, I was able to interview four mothers in my community. For Sally, life have not been easy raising two boys and not being educated. When her sons’ father left them, Sally started to look for outside support and that’s when she was referred to the Costi family centre. The centre became a huge help foe sally and her children as they worked through their early years. They provided her children with after school programs that give them the opportunity to involve with other children while building social support and allowed her to get employment so she can provide for her children financially. Sally said when she is at work and her children are at the centre, she does not worry about anything because she is confident that they are safe. Sally had built strong relationships with workers and other participants at the centre that makes her feel welcome and at home whenever she goes there with her sons. She volunteers in many programs run at the centre. With no family support in Canada, the Costi family centre has been a great source of support that sally and her sons find most useful in any
