Fast Food establishments are on every corner, affordable, and there’s a menu for every price and craving. Although cheap and always available, fast food is never a healthy meal choice. Fast Food has been identified as the cause of many major psychiatric and physical illnesses. Fast Food has been linked psychiatric illnesses such depression, and physical diseases such as Obesity, Hypertension, and Cancer. In a hectic moment, fast food may seem like a good idea, but in the long run it can be harmful. It has been proven through several study Fast Food is linked to depression. Certain nutrients such as B-Vitamins, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, and Olive Oil play a preventative role in depression. Fast Food does not contain the nutrients at all. In 1999, a study called “The SUN Project” was conducted to prove fast food is a cause of Depression. During the study, 8, 964 participants who had never been diagnosed with depression, eating habits were observed over a six-month period. During the six-month period 493 participants who consumed high amounts of fast food, were diagnosed with depression and prescribed antidepressants. Hypertension, Obesity, and Cancer are at the top of the list. Hypertension also known as “The Silent Killer” is one of America’s most common and deadliest illnesses. Hypertension is caused by high sodium intake and leads to other illnesses such as stroke, heart attack, and heart disease. Suggested daily sodium intake to maintain a healthy diet is 1500mg. A Big Mac and Medium Fry from McDonalds alone equals 1200mg of sodium. There are some people who eat these high sodium foods at least once per day or more.
