Romeo and Juliet are often referred to as “star-crossed lovers.” Romeo and Juliet were not supposed to be together for many reasons, but nothing stopped them. Fate brought Romeo and Juliet together because of the Capulet party, the feud between their families and the fact that Juliet was supposed to marry Count Paris. Shakespeare had the idea of holding a ball for the Capulet party for a reason, and that reason was for Romeo and Juliet to meet. Capulet held a ball on Sunday evening, Romeo was feeling depressed because the woman he loved, Rosaline, did not love him back. It seems like they have never liked each other, and they never will. Throughout the entire play, Shakespeare always goes back to the idea of the feud because it is one of the main ideas of the play. Without the feud, Romeo and Juliet would have no problem being together. The two families are fighting and they despise each other greatly. Mercutio and Tybalt being killed was one effect of the feud. Tybalt, a Capulet called, Romeo a villain for being at the Capulet ball, when he was not supposed to, and for just being a Montague. Mercutio, being neither a Montague or a Capulet, wanted to stand up for his Montague friend and fight Tybalt. Mercutio ended up dead and Romeo decided that he needed to serve justice for his friend, so the only way he could was to fight Tybalt. Romeo did not want to fight Tybalt at first because he is his wife's cousin, but Romeo being young and naive decides that he needs to kill Tybalt, and that is what he did.
