Being a dad to daughters can sometimes be tricky. Little girls love to do girly things that dads may not always enjoy. They love to play dress up, have tea parties, and watch Disney movies. A fan favorite among little girls, but perhaps not dads, is the movie Cinderella. Young girls love to dress up and pretend to be Cinderella. The new live-action Cinderella follows the same plot line as the original Disney Cinderella. The movie Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, was ideally created for young girls, but can be intriguing and entertaining to dads because of its opportunities for father-daughter bonding, relatability, and well played characters. Cinderella’s life was perfect. She had everything she could ever wish for. But suddenly her life changed forever. There are many opportunities for a dad to talk to his daughter about things that are important for a young girl to understand, like self-love and personality. Many people disagree with the influence Cinderella has on little girls. Peggy Orenstein states in the article Pink Slip, “We live in a time when girls are doing really well in a lot of realm. They’re doing well in school, they’re going to college at higher rates than boys, they’re doing great on the sports field, they’re in leadership roles” (Shuler, 2011 Para. 7). She states later that girls are defined by how they look. In Loretta Sword’s article, she states “Research shows that girls who are close to their fathers are much less likely to become pregnant as teens than those who aren't” (Sword, 2011, Para. 1). By a father taking the time to sit down and explain to his daughter that she really matters and that she is perfect the way she is, it could save her a lot of trouble and heartache in the
