Jonathan is the main character of the book “The Fighting Ground” by Avi. To provide further information, Jonathan is a thirteen-year-old boy who wishes to fight in the American Revolution, like his father, brother, and cousin. He is brave, naive, a bit of a dimwit at times, and a convincing liar. He is also a bit of a pushover, and seems to be easily frightened. However, some of that has changed by the end of the book.
“More weight,” stated by Giles Corey from, “The Crucible,” before he was pressed to death for witchcraft. Giles Corey was one of the oldest people to be killed during the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of events that took place in 1692, where innocent people were hung for apparently being witches. The people in the trials were tried in court and the girls who accused them would act like the person or people were sending spirits towards them to make the judges believe them. Giles Corey reminds me of myself by his sarcasm during conversations, always acting ornery, and the comical remarks he makes.
Tom and Jose are alike in many ways when it comes to work. Tom thought that if he bargains and lures the boys into wanting to whitewash the fence, he could get out of chores. They are both smart businessmen. While, Jose knew that his cousin, Arnie, would try to get over on him so he made sure that their deal was a seventy-thirty split since Jose completed all of the labor while Arnie “supervised” and found the jobs. Tom and Jose also appreciate things as well.
Based on the evidence in Patrick Shanley’s play, Doubt: A Parable, I conclude Father Flynn is guilty because of his desire to help boys and his ability to hide his past. Father Flynn has a strange liking of boys. He is the basketball coach at the school and loves spending time teaching kids how to play basketball. Although he is suppose to be teaching the boys about basketball, He tends to boys how to be men. When talking to the boys Father Flynn says, “I’ve noticed several of you guys have dirty nails.
The Weight of the World The nature vs. nurture debate is a common and long standing debate in fields such as biology, sociology, psychology, history, literacy, government, and many more, but it is accepted that they both play a huge part in the world. Nature produces a template of what an organism can become. The organism is held between the ends of a spectrum of what can be, yet it will never have the knowledge of its full potential. Due to this, the organism in question must dedicate itself to an environment in which it can fully express its absolute abilities.
UNDERSTANDING PLOT AND CHARACTER (K/U) 1. Describe the personalities of the three main characters Ulysses Everett McGill, Pete Hog wallop and Delmar O’ Donell. (3 point) Ulysses Everett McGill is a clever, quick-witted person and fast-talking. He’s good at coming up with good plans when things go wrong. He’s disdainful when it comes to religion, for example: when Delmar and Pete were baptized, they said all their sins have been pardoned, Ulysses Everett said that the priest is lying to them.
Randle McMurphy enters the mental institute with an attitude thinking he outsmarted the government by escaping hard work; ultimately leading him to see himself superior to the other patients. Randle McMurphy was initially brought to the psych ward because he convinced the military jail that he was psychotic. According to the military, McMurphy charged with statutory rape and it is this charge that set the story into play. “‘...and one arrest- for Rape… with a child of fifteen’”(45). R.P. McMurphy manipulated the system into thinking he was crazy.
“Get tough like me and you will not get hurt.” Dally says this to Ponyboy on page 147 in the book. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about how you treat other people and the author explains by talking about conflict between the poor Greasers and the rich Socs in the mid-1960s in Tulsa, OK. The Greasers win the rumble, Johnny dies and Dally is very upset and gets himself killed. Dally is a round character because he is both a cold and caring Greaser.
The upbringing of a child contains many factors, many of which correlate to where a child grows up. The people, culture, and experiences of someone’s childhood are the greatest determining factor for what kind of person they will become. So how does the nature and nurture of one’s upbringing impact the decisions that they make, and their life in general? Author Wes Moore explores this question in his memoir, The Other Wes Moore, as it relates to two lives in particular. Moore main purpose in this book is to explore the overarching impact that a collection of expectations and decisions, not always one’s own, can have on someone’s life.
Among the hidden has a big variety of characters. One of the characters is Luke Garner. Luke is the kind of person that likes just set back and what things happen. He does not do anything that could get him in trouble with his family or even worse than that. The book luke says “I am a third child!
John is now living his present as a believer in God, and this shapes his perspective on both his past and his future. Much like John, my awakening changed my perspective on life. While I was at the happiness sprinkling, I noticed that, while most people smiled back at us, some people did their best to avoid us. As I was thinking about this, I realized that if I had not been a part of that group, I probably would have been one of those people who just avoided it.
Power, the ability to maintain control, command, or authority over others can often be determined by one’s reputation and his or her persuasiveness. This principle is displayed within The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, in which follows the town of Salem, Massachusetts attempting to navigate through a “Witchcraft” outbreak supposedly lead by the Devil. Within such a theocratic society such as Salem, the Devil is often associated with death, fear, and uncertainty. While his name alone is often believed to be able to influence others in to following through in certain actions. The Devil, as a key figure behind the immense “witchcraft” occurring in Salem, is crafted by Miller as the most influential “character” due to his infamous reputation and his ability to control characters’ actions.
The crucible, based during the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials of 1692. A constant theme through out the play is your personal reputation, maintaining a good name. Judge Danforth a well respected man in the society that has the supreme rule over the court. He is known for making the right decisions and never going against them. Innocent and guilty people have been put to death underneath his Judgement, to him this demonstrates his superiority and power.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
