I am reading Hero by Mike Lupica and I am on page 124. The book is about Zach, whose father died in a deadly plane crash. Zach is looking to find out what he thinks happened to his father: The plane crash was not an accident. While still coping with the loss of his father, and while looking for what happened to his father, Zach meets a man, Mr. Herbert, who gives Zach superpowers. In this journal I will be predicting and questioning.
Crack, crack. That’s the sound the gavel made as the judge used it. In the book Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee the character Drummond is defending Bertram Cates in the case of the scopes trial. While it might seem like a weird case this did happen in real life as well. The real person for Drummond is Clarence Darrow.
With descriptions of their mundane school grounds, unsightly home lives, and the rough and tough appearance of the boys, Joshua Davis paints vivid portraits of the main characters of his novel. While thumbing through the novel, I could feel the fear associated with the constant threat of deportation, and the anxiety of wondering if their families were going to be there when they returned home. When it was revealed that the boys had succeeded in winning the competition, I felt a physical wave of happiness and relief wash over me. This kind imagery and ability to translate emotion is essential in telling a story such as this, because a person truly needs to be able to place themselves in the shoes of those boys to be able to fully appreciate
“More weight,” stated by Giles Corey from, “The Crucible,” before he was pressed to death for witchcraft. Giles Corey was one of the oldest people to be killed during the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of events that took place in 1692, where innocent people were hung for apparently being witches. The people in the trials were tried in court and the girls who accused them would act like the person or people were sending spirits towards them to make the judges believe them. Giles Corey reminds me of myself by his sarcasm during conversations, always acting ornery, and the comical remarks he makes.
Danielle Evans, the assistant professor of the English department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is the author of the Paterson Prize winner Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self. In her collection of short stories, Evans includes “Robert E. Lee is Dead,” a story of a teenage girl named Crystal and her best friend Geena Johnson. Crystal gains popularity when she becomes Geena’s friend. However when their friendship ends, Crystal becomes the antisocial girl who did not fit in with the cool teenagers anymore. Crystal perfectly fits the definition of a morally ambiguous character because she cannot be classified as purely good nor purely evil.
In Another Man’s Moccasins (2008), by Craig Johnson, the character Walt Longmire has three moral attributes and those are being compassionate, being responsible, and being respectful. Walt’s appearance in the beginning of the book makes him seem like he is not compassionate to anyone and comes off as being hard. Walt’s character starts to evolve as the book goes on and opens who he is truly as a person. But, throughout the entire book, Craig gives many examples of how Walt is compassionate for his daughter’s mental health and his co-workers, responsible when it comes to his job, and how he tries to remain respectful through his investigations. First moral attribute Walt has is being compassionate, and this is mainly for his daughter’s mental health and wellbeing.
From anyone related to the rodeo industry or even just going through the motions of life, when it comes down to your “ride” it could mean life or death. For Luke in The Longest Ride, it meant exactly this. In this novel, it clearly relates to the title. Within rodeo as a whole, the sport is very dangerous whether you are a bull rider, barrel racer or roper.

Mark Character Analysis The quiet ones are the dangerous ones. That is the case when it comes to Mark Kinney, the mastermind behind the plot to kidnap Mr. Griffin. In the book Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan, Mark is a malicious, sullen and charismatic character.
The most important thing about this whole story is that Americans died because their doctors felt they were genetically unfit to live. Value judgments have always been central parts of defining disease, deciding what to do about it. It wasn 't simply that, in Dr. Haiselden 's day, bad science was corrupted by allowing values in. Dr. Haiselden and his supporters believed passionately in objectivity but in looking back at then, and the way in which their response to disease was shaped by their values. Trying to be purely objective won 't keep out values.
Amber: Father Regan has transformed a few tramps myself, and he doesn’t even consider that as a “miracle” and also doesn’t consider him as a saint for doing so. Mrs. Leckie: Joel said that Mary led him to god, and changed his life, but Father Regan saying that he has done it himself and the effect on the tramp could be temporary as he can go back to being the way he was. Danat: Dunny is foolish since as he is the only one of the community looking at her in a different perspective and how although she did try to help the tramp, it was a sin anyways since she had sex with him because she’s married and has a son. What I believe is that, if it was a miracle, then it shouldn’t have a bad effect on anyone else. It does a have a positive effect
Among the Hidden Themes One theme in Among the Hidden is “survival”. This is a theme because when you're a third child you have to know how to survive. You have to hide, or you’ll get caught and killed. Luke hid for so long until one day, when he saw a face in the neighbor's window. This leads us to our second theme of the story.
There is a theory that there are only seven different story-lines in the world, but they are all re-used in different ways to make up all of the books and movies and plays we have today. If that theory were true, Luke's life fell into the category of the quiet kid with no glaringly obvious hopes, dreams or aspirations, if that category existed. His life seemed to helplessly revolve around school, and he spent all of his nights slaving over books and copies, studying his subject matter with an outlook of frustration on his world. Luke was nothing special to himself or to anybody else. Of course, if he found the right person, they would be able to find the special and unique aspects of Luke and embrace them, but that somebody just hadn't seemed
Out of the three sons, Hakeem Lyon represents the underdeveloped son who was favorited by his father for being the youngest, but missed the guidance, and love from Cookie. Hakeem fights against his three brothers for his father’s affection but due to his young age and lack of experience, he struggles to receive it. Now that his mother is back in the picture, he relies heavily on her for support, and for encouragement he didn’t receive as a child from his father or mother. His character identifies with young men who are attempting to find their permanent place in the world but base their decision based on other’s opinions. The purpose of my essay is to explore how different social backgrounds and the social norms that follow affect the personality of two fictive characters and encourage them to break out of their station to find an identity. The protagonists Holden Caulfield in J.D. Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye and Tambudzai in Tsitsi Dangarembga’s novel Nervous Conditions are both victims of social norms. Therefore, the foundation of this essay was to analyze the character’s social background, which has influenced their personalities, behavior and aspirations, and consequently their opposing actions against society.
