Having healthy family relationships, especially with parents are essential. When these relationships are broken it can be difficult. Broken father-son relationships can be difficult because of the critical role that fathers play in their sons' lives. It's important to work through any issues and rebuild the relationship if possible. Unhealthy, broken father-son relationships can have negative effects on both the father and son. They can lead to feelings of resentment, anger, and sadness. It's influential to work through any issues and rebuild the relationship if possible.

They both have difficulty understanding each other's feelings, which can lead to arguments and misunderstandings. In MausⅡArt says, “I know this is insane, but I somehow wish I had been in Auschwitz with my parents so I could really know what they lived through! . . . I guess it’s some kind of guilt about having had an easier life than they did.” Art struggles with feelings of guilt and responsibility for his father's experiences during the Holocaust. Feeling as if it is your fault for someone else’s traumatic experience can carry a lot of emotional baggage. Vladek, on the other hand, believes he could have done more for his family. Physically and emotionally he is a broken man. Vladek’s experience in the holocaust also affected their relationship. “I cannot forget it . . . Ever since Hitler I don’t like to throw out even a crumb.” He tries saving anything he can and pushes it on Art. This frustrates Art since he didn’t experience the same things as his father. He doesn’t feel the same need to save every crumb or item. They both feel terrible emotionally. They have this feeling of guilt and sympathy for one another.
