Some people think that the only police organizations we have are the local police, sheriff's department, and the state police. Most people forget that we have other organizations such as the FBI, CIA and U.S. Marshals. I will be discussing the similarities and differences between the FBI ( Federal Bureau of Investigation) and the duties of a state trooper. Beginning with some similarities that the FBI and a State Trooper have in common are the authority to make an arrest (Discoverpolicing.org). Just like a state trooper, the FBI does routine patrol, conducts investigations, and offers security and protection if needed (Discoverpolicing.org). Becoming a state police officer is a long process. In Illinois there are seven steps in becoming a state police officer before you begin working as one (Illinois State Police Officer Requirements). These steps include: 1. Submit an online application. 2. Schedule and take the written recruitment exam. 3. Pass physical exam. 4. Complete a background investigation. 5. Appear for a two-part oral interview. 6. Complete medical and psychological evaluations. 7. Complete recruit training at the Illinois State Police Training Academy (Illinois State Police Officer Requirements). Also to become an Illinois state police officer, you must be at least twenty-one years of age, a U.S. citizen, possess a valid drivers licenses, have to be willing to accept assignments anywhere in Illinois, and you have to have a bachelor's degree, or an associate's degree with at least three years of service as a police or in active military duty (Illinois Police Officer
