Many different types of police agencies exist in the United States of America. Every police agency varies from small town police departments to larger federal agencies. The functions of the police agencies usually depend on the type of organization, its size, its mission, and jurisdiction. When selecting an agency that is suitable for you and your interests several things should be considered.

Officers must know the proper way to make an arrest, execute an appropriate arrest warrant and conduct a "stop and frisk" search. The officer must be able to retain enough information about the incident to provide the prosecutor with sufficient details to craft a formal complaint. It is difficult to come up with a designated approach of organizational, management, administration, and operational capabilities at these three organizational stages that is considering that all the departments have their own way of ruling and their own approaches accordingly making them specific from each
