The Role of Police
The police are the largest law enforcement agency in the United States, which is made up of integration of a small town police wings to the federal police agencies that are relatively large. The US police are fundamental in law enforcement, which has varied responsibilities including crime prevention, protecting borders from foreign encroachment, prevention of terrorism, prevention the use and trade of illicit drugs and controlling domestic violence that is common in the modern American society. They are responsible for arrests throughout the day as well as carrying firearms. This arm of the police is the largest employer of federal police officers in the United States. Their responsibilities include customs and border protections to facilitate conforming to the US customs requirements and border protection. The federal bureau of prisons are responsible for operating the federal prisons; on the other hand, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is responsible for criminal investigations. Finally, the Immigration and Customs Department is responsible for dealing with immigration and citizenship issues. Each of the federal police departments are made up of over 10,000 police officers.
