Fear In Lord Of The Flies Argumentative Essay

376 Words2 Pages
Fear is infused into all at an early age and taints one’s worldly perceptions throughout their lives. It is taught that you should be afraid of crime, afraid of losing our jobs, afraid of sickness, afraid of immigrants, afraid of failure, afraid of not being loved. All these doubts are grabbed onto and heightened by the media, government, as well as society. Many who have power use fear to manipulate and control others. Fear turns people into instruments of power. Once afraid it is natural for anyone to surrender, because when afraid, there are no boundaries as to how far one will go to feel safe. In both reality, and in The Lord of the Flies, Golding illustrates that fear can be used to legitimize a leader’s authority.
