As a peacemaker and an outspoken leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has done a lot to end segregation in the United States of America. His own imagination filled with millions of hopes that one day everyone can learn to accept one another put him in very difficult situations in which he was not afraid. In 1963, Dr. King wrote a letter from the Birmingham Jail to a clergymen that freedom has to be given to everyone no matter what race they were. Dr. King fought for the rights of African Americans because they were separated from doing all the things that the Whites were able to do. He decided to take a step and fight for everyone.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very inspirational man who overcame his fear to help many others stand up against their own. During this time there were laws that were there to make every man equal black or white, but it ended up dividing the black from the whites completely, which escalated to many blacks being imprisoned, and discriminated against. So this man risked it all to start a non-violent act of peace and equality for everyone. Two of his most famous acts helped tremendously, “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and “I Have a Dream” When Dr. King wrote the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” he was jailed and was trying to get a word out to the other blacks of birmingham trying to get them to protest non-violently. Just like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Civil Rights Activist. Because of his Christian beliefs he used nonviolent disobedience to advance his civil rights movements. Despite his many arrests, King never gave up on the rights movement. At the age of twelve he suffered from depression and blamed himself of his grandmother’s death and jumped from a two-story window but he survived. Sometimes painful situations, for example, the death of his grandmother, will make you a stronger person in life and it will motivate you to try to change the world for the better.
Martin Luther King was an activist who fought for the rights of black people by leading nonviolent protests. Martin helped the black community deeply by being responsible for acts like the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Voting Rights Act, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968. In addition, he also led the civil rights movement with his vision of change and leadership, which made the world a better place for all colored people. In “Letter from Birmingham Jail” Martin says “Nonviolent direct action seeks to create tension so a community will move toward negotiation”. Martin Luther King firmly believed nonviolent direct action was a very effective tactic so the community will slowly begin to understand the racism they were facing.
In the times of Martin Luther King Jr., an African American couldn't even sit up front on a public bus. They couldn't vote. They were ultimately treated as vermin and less than human. Dr. King was out to change that. Dr. King expressed great gratitude and optimism for the sanitation workers’ strike, the civil rights movement, and the quest to achieve equality for African Americans.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a strong man who fought against racism and discrimination in a non-violent way. He had a lot of things in his childhood that shaped his beliefs and actions as an adult. His personal experiences, role models and mentors, and education all had a part in shaping how he behaved as an adult. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights leader who practiced peaceful protest and worked hard for minorities to be equal and end segregation. In 1963, Birmingham, Alabama was a city caught in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, there were many protest held by racist and those who wanted equality. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a leader in the South who visited the town to hold some demonstrations. There were many who opposed his ideas, but a group of clergymen decided to send him a letter explaining why they are against these demonstrations and why they should be stopped. The clergymen also expressed how they believed that Dr. King responded to these racist acts was inappropriate, and he should’ve been patient and wait for change.
Another point to consider is that since Martin was a young kid, his father wouldn 't listen to anyone that treated him differently due to his skin color and refused to be handled this way. For instance, when Martin went with his father to a shoe store and were sitting in the whites section, the salesman asked them to move to the colored section but Reverend King refused. He confidently replied, “ We 'll either buy shoes sitting here, or we won 't buy shoes at all.” MLK grew up learning not to tolerate segregation and to speak up against it. For this reason, Martin grew up and took action to forever abolish discrimination; he grew up learning that segregation was wrong, so he did something to fix it.
Martin Luther King Jr. is a person that will always continue to inspire others. The speech Dr. King was very powerful enough to inspire people to change the fact racism still exists in America. Dr. King says, “We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote” (King ). The African Americans in Mississippi were not able to vote while the African Americans voting saw no point in voting when every presidential candidate is for segregation. This inspires many people because it will make people understand that blacks cannot legally do many of the things whites were able
“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character”. Dr King had a vision of a society in which race was not an issue in how people were treated or in how they were allowed to to live their lives. The efforts of King and those who liked him have, in fact , changed the country and the world for the better in noticeable ways . His vision has made the world a more equal place , if not an equal one, and it helped to ensure that minorities have a voice. A second impact Martin luther King did to change the country was in 1955 he became heavily notice in Montgomery and the Alabama boycott of the city buses.
