The Extraordinary life of Ferdinand Foch One of the most fascinating French generals in World War 1 was a man named Ferdinand Foch. Ferdinand Foch served in many wars including World War 1. Foch willingly served his country all throughout his early life, while in the army, success in the army, and his unfortunate death. Ferdinand Foch was born on October 2nd. Foch grew up in a city called Tarbes. His mother was a stay at home mom and his father was a servant. In 1869 he entered the Jesuit school of Saint- Clement. Later, Foch enrolled in a French army college. Foch proved that he was so impressive that he was asked to remain as a teacher. Then he went to an artillery Training school as an officer. Ferdinand Foch joined the Army in 1871. He was forced to brace- up the nervous British commander. Foch also directed the French part of 141- Day Offensive at the Somme.
