Leadership The field work I did during this course has really made me step up, and serve as a leader on my campus. I was able to work closely with teachers, staff, and students and had many responsibilities. One responsibility I had was creating guidance lessons involving drugs, alcohol, and gang violence. My school is classified as “at risk” and we deal with many of these issues on my campus. I was able to visit various classrooms and provide lessons involving drug and alcohol awareness, effects of drugs and alcohol, dealing with peer pressure, conflict resolution, gang awareness, etc. I loved the opportunity to be able to lead my own projects, and bring awareness to the student body. During my fieldwork I actively became involved my may school to develop and manage the counseling program I am a part of. Consulting In my field work I was expected to complete 160 hours of both indirect and direct services at my school counseling site. Some of the consulting serves I performed were parent consultations, individual counseling’s, classroom guidance, record keepings, staff meetings, seminars, interactive observations meetings, site supervision, and other site tasks. Anytime I was struggling with an issue or had a question about what procedure I needed to follow my site supervisor was there to help. I also found it helpful to collaborate during our interactive conferences, because I was provided with constructive criticism and feedback that allowed me to make modifications to my counseling skills/approach and allowed me to become more effective. I learned from my field work that I will need to develop relationships with my peers at my school. My principle always says “you cannot grow in isolation,” and now I fully understand why collaborating is essential in the counseling
