Chapter One: You Are What You See In today’s society, the media is inescapable. The advancements of technology have led to an even larger outreach of media--touching close to every person. For me, the media has always been an influence in my life. From the songs I’ve listen to, the movies I grew up watching, and the stories I’ve heard, the media has sculpted a significant portion of my identity.
This song shows a young girl who is portrayed as having a dorky nerdy look. Also, it shows a girl that is opposite of her, who is a pretty brunette known by the highschool kids. The “nerdy” girl is in love with a football player, who she believes will never have a chance with, because he is with another girl. “Taylor swift” has a crush on a boy who is blind to see that she really loved her and not the girl he is with who is portrayed as a “popular” Brunette. This is an important aspect to Taylor Swift because she is known to sing love stories that she hears about or experience herself.
This song is about his fiance whom he knew from school many years ago, and found their love again when they were both working in New York when they were older. Ed Sheeran had nice use of figurative language through his lyrics, portraying that they should dive into their relationship. He continues to use metaphors like this and a lot of imagery details to put us in the scene with them dancing. You can feel how much he means the word, “I don’t deserve this” referring to his fiance. He put so much effort and emotion into this song, so this is why I would categorize this song as a great love
In the video of this song each girls face shows sign of sadness and confusion as to why the world has to be so cold like this. The message he is trying to show is
Along with the lyrics, it shows that she might finally get her moment to show him that they belong together. Then Swift finds him at the dance and she shows him her paper that says “I love you” and he shows you his paper that says it too. The entire music video leads up to that point. This is one example of a rhetorical analysis on a music video, but every music video could be analyzed this way.
It is a song about blind love, even if her man is leading her on she doesn’t care because she still gets to love him for that short while. This piece is originally a duet but because of her large range and control, she would sing both parts. According to the NY Times, Vaughan

The 2006 British film “The Queen” depicts events that unfolded after the death of Princess Diana in 1997. In the film, the British Royal Family did not react the way the public expected them to. Due to their lack of grief that was publicly shown towards Princess Diana’s death, it resulted in their actions being heavily criticised by British media and the public. Newly elected Prime Minister, Tony Blair, had to step in to help the Royal Family deal with their bad relations to the public, with the help of Diana’s ex-husband, Prince Charles. From the in-depth movie analysis, this essay will be able to show that the media is able to influence the people and their stance towards certain topics by applying these media theories: agenda setting through gatekeeping, dramatization, and two-step flow of communication.
The first reason, is figurative language is a key to comprehending a song. Figurative language interprets the main object to emphasize it´s meaning. For example, in Taylor Swift’s Blank Space she uses a simile by saying , “... I can read you like a magazine…”, she is trying to say that she knows what a male’s intention is. She continues interpreting the main object by using the hyperbole “...we’ll take this way too far it’ll leave you breathless or with a nasty scar…”, meaning their love can end in troublesome terms.
The song that I am going to analyze is “Control” by Halsey. The song is titled control because, the singer mentioned that she has bipolar disorder, and she feels the constant confusion and frustration of who is actually controlling her state of mind. In the song many things symbolize her state of mind, and how she sees it, which would be like a “deadly disease”. The important symbol that is used in this song is “I’m bigger than my body, I’m colder than this home”, meaning that she see’s herself as something that is better than what her body represents or shows, while the other part symbolizes how her other persona can be mean or cold to people. Simply maybe because sometimes she would feel confident, standing up to herself at times, but also when the other persona takes control, she becomes cold, filled with anxiety or maybe even depression and frustration.
This is evident within the song’s chorus. “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn. That’s alright because I like the way it hurts.” The woman in the relationship does not actually like being abused.
Beyond its role in the greater context of the plot, the song itself plays around with JFKDSLFJSDKLFJ. Lyrically, the song is quite bland. In particular, its imagery is clichéd: wedding bells, birds, roses, etc. However, this makes sense for someone who has fell in love for the first time. In addition, the repetition of the line “Till there was you” creates a lyrical base to which the previous line, referring to not being able to appreciate symbols of live, can return.
Although she does not want to, their is a part of her that wants to be with him and is jealous that he has found another woman to love. This song is giving the audience a lesson that we are all strong and that it is always possible to be happy even when it does not seem like it. Despite how strong she is, she still hurts and speaks to her ex who left her broken hearted. “I heard that you 're settled down, that you found a girl and you’re married now,” they broke up and Adele is having an onerous time getting over him. While he is married and now moved on to new things in his life, “I heard that your dreams came true.”
Moreover, it triggers certain responses regarding attitude and behavior in the audience. Therefore, it is important to filter or rather watch out the king of media violence our children are exposed to at a tender age and as they grow
Media are platforms of mass communication that can be categorized as either new of traditional media, with new media being forms of communication that make use of technologies such as the Internet, and traditional media being more conventional forms of media such as newspapers. Media, primarily new media, is getting more popular and influential, especially in today’s day and age since we are exposed to it a lot more than in the past and also since media is more easily accessible now. The media can shape our behaviours, perceptions and opinions, and it is important to know how people are influenced and impacted by it. The media can influence someone’s perception of social reality, or perceptions of beauty or even influence people’s behaviours and habits and therefore, the media does shape who we are. One way that the media can shape who we are is by influencing our perception of social reality.
