Global warming is defined by the Oxford dictionary (n.d) as a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere, generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide. According to several studies, temperatures on earth have steadily increased since the early 20th century (“Is human”, 2016). Over the past several years, many scientists debate rather or not global warming is real and if it warrants immediate action. Taking Sides, a book selected and edited by Thomas Easton (2014), expands on clashing views on environmental issues. Easton helps summarize the two opposing sides regarding global warming.
The Global Humanitarian Forum argues greenhouse gases are a direct result of human activities, …show more content…

Recent reports, based on verified scientific information, shows climate changing is already causing widespread devastation. Furthermore, the findings in the reports also indicate that each year 300,000 people die, while over 325 million people are affected by global warming (Easton, 2014). Most people on the pro-side agree that immediate action is essential to tackle climate change.
The con side argues human-generated greenhouse gas emissions are too small to substantially change the earth’s climate (Easton, 2014). Furthermore, he states the theory of human-caused global climate change is based on questionable measurements, faulty climate models, and misleading science (“Is human”, 2016).
Many who are against global warming, believes rising levels of CO2 do not necessarily cause global warming, which contradicts the core thesis of human-caused climate change (“Is human”, 2016). Furthermore, reducing the usage of fossil fuel would prevent us from using many of luxuries. Electric air-conditioning, chaper fuels, and growing food at a low-cost is a few examples of those luxuries. Bjorn Lomborg also argues that we have dealt with the sea rising for years, and will continue to do so years from now (Easton,
