The media has been growing significantly over the last decades. The media, consisted of the TV, internet, radio and newspapers can and have already influenced many individuals. Nowadays more than 3.17 billion individuals have access to the internet and can use it to communicate with each other even when geographically distant, use it for education and for entertainment. Two subjects in society can control the internet, one is the government and the other one is companies/corporations like Facebook, News Corp, Time Warner etc.
Before moving into the actual question, we should first consider what are the intentions of the 2 subjects to control the media. Large companies and corporations tend to control the media mostly to promote their products

One of the most free-media countries was UK in 1995 scoring a 24 press freedom score (Akkoc, 2015). The press freedom index is the ranking of the countries which had the most press freedom. This score is made from the Reporters Without Borders so it can be more fair and objective. The score kept on decreasing until it reached 24 again in 2015. However in 2016, sensitive information was released regarding Elton John and David Furnish. While Elton John made an injunction so that any British journalist who wrote about this information would go to jail, this did not stop the sensitive information reaching other journalists from around the world (Tom Morgan, 2016).This is a very good example because it shows how hard it is to control the media globally and how easily a country with a 24 press freedom score can turn into a controlled media (in this case only the news industry was …show more content…
Time Warner and News Corp together own most of the News sites such as the WSJ, New York Post, CNN, HBO and Time. Comcast (owned by General Electric), Disney, Warner Bros (owned by Time Warner) and Paramount pictures (by Viacom) own most of the animated movies and TV shows. This shows that only 6 corporations can control the media of USA using the news,TV, many movies and even the radio . This is a problem because, these corporations are becoming monopolies which will make the competition unfair for the other “new companies”. Lastly all the 6 corporations are Public Owned Companies and the government cannot control
