Over the last four weeks there has been a lot of information that has been taught and expanded on the knowledge of the class. As we are approaching the end of the fourth week we reflect back on some of those interesting and important topics in the transportation and logistics operations. Initially we learned about what the traits were of some of the best supply chains in business. Following learning about the traits, as a class we moved into how these companies balance the time and costs of conducting business. One way for companies to be able to save money is by moving their supplies faster. If the products are shipped quickly, then they have the option to order closer to the time they need the supplies and have minimal stockpile (Johnston, n.d). This allows the companies to ensure they are able to sell the current stock levels down before having to invest more. One way for a company to determine how well it is performing is based off its inventory accuracy. If a customer is to purchase an item they expect it to be in stock and arrive at their doorstep with little delays. Another way they are able to accomplish an evaluation is based off how well the company sticks to timelines. Shipping times can get screwed up relatively easily and there are many people to blame. If cooperation’s care about their reputation they will make sure items are delivered either before expected or on time.
