Love, Friendship & Determination, Film critique on Finding Nemo
One on the most iconic disney movie films of our generation, Finding nemo directed by Andrew Staton and Lee Unkrich is a very wonderful, destructive, emotional and adventurous look of very important values that we as humans go through everyday. The film is set in the great barrier reef, where we follow the story of Marlin the clownfish and his son Nemo. After the abduction of his son Marlin ventures out into the ocean trying to find his son and bring him home. With the use of sound, setting and the use of lighting techniques, we look at their tale and all of their obstacles along the way. What nemo didn't know is that it belonged to divers who were there to collect fish, nemo finds himself kidnapped by the divers and split away from his father. Due to the fact that Marlin had a very strong emotional tie to his only child (last thing to remember his wife by) he sets a journey to track down his son with the help of a new a friend, a blue tang called Dory that suffers from short term memory loss. The directors of this film have found numerous ways to tie in many themes such as love and friendship that is easily caught by the viewers, for example after hearing Marlin’s story, Dory finds it upon herself to do a good deed and help this new found friend in the search to find his son. The writers of this film have made very strong connections with the audience by showing the audience that even newly found strangers can potentially be friends and help each other out despite their differences for example, while being captive in the office fish tank Nemo the lonely clown fish gets accepted into the fish tank gang after he proves himself to them by being an important asset when coming up with an escape plan.
