The First Three Petitions of The Lord’s Prayer The Lord’s Prayer is an important part of Jesus’ teachings and a model prayer for us. The preface shows our paternal relationship with Him, it acknowledges His providential care, and it shows ourselves as a child of God. We are showing our special and intimate paternal relationship we have with God when we address Him as “Our Father.” The first petition shows that we are to exalt God’s name, the name above every name. His name is holy and we shouldn’t casually misuse it like we do today. God’s name displays His amazing character, like His kindness, His sovereignty, His gentleness, and more. That’s why it is so sacred. The second petition announces our eagerness for the kingdom of God to come on earth. Our world is broken and falling apart. As believers, we can’t wait for God’s kingdom to come down on earth. His kingdom is a kingdom of grace and truth, so we want it to come down as soon as possible. Even the preface gives a lot of information, addressing God as not only our God but our father. In the first petition, we are lifting up God’s name. Just those few letters on a paper hold God's amazing character. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, and so much more. I'm the second petition, we are praying that God’s kingdom of grace would come quickly, and that the devil’s kingdom would be destroyed. In the third and final petition, we ask that whatever God has planned for our life would be carried out. We are putting aside our own wishes and giving all of ourselves to His will. Overall, the first three petitions show us how we should humbly lift up God, His kingdom, and His will when we
