I founded CAVS 4 VETS after my dad and I had the honor of hosting several veterans from the Wounded Warrior project on our deer lease. After my time with them, I knew my teammates and I could do something to give back to these veterans and others that fought and sacrificed for our freedoms. Lake Travis High School strongly encourages community service, but I wanted to start something that directly benefits our Central Texas Veterans. Cavs 4
I start this rhetorical analyses asking a simple question, is creative content everything? Netflix (on-demand internet streaming media service), an innovative service that allows people to watch movies, TV shows and cartoons in your TV at home or in your smartphone while you are in a bus or train for example, can quickly answer this question with a no. The article that bring these concerns and here in analysis is “Why Content Isn 't King: How Netflix became America 's biggest video service” written by Jonathan A. Knee. Addressing this issue the author brings up details on a topic that has affected directly good part of the population. My objective in this analysis is determine if the article influence and captive the attention of the
The Mac vs PC adds developed in 2006 were a four year add campaign introduced by Apple to address the common issue that the average consumer faces. Which is better, Mac or PC? The answer, you guessed it, Mac. These adds are filled with rhetoric that ‘brainwash’ the viewer into considering an Apple computer over a PC and in many cases it was the most successful that they’ve ever had. The rhetorical devices were key, in the add there is a major build on ethos, pathos and logos using facts and celebrities to really persuade the viewer.
The Use of Rhetorical Devices in the “Google Home” Super Bowl Commercial Companies and other forms of media strategically use the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, to market goods and/or promote ideas. The appeals have been used for centuries are still prevalent in all types of modern day propaganda. If used correctly, ethos, pathos, and logos can be used as clever tactics to engrain information into the brains of consumers. One of the more notable ways that brands use these appeals are commercials. Google, the world’s most famous multinational technology company, used the three appeals to reach success.
In the essay “How Computers Change the Way We Think”, Sherry Turkle is the author. Turkle shows us how over the years technology has changed our way of thinking. She gives examples of why computers can sometimes fight against us rather than leading us in the right direction that serve for the greater good. In “How Computers Change the Way We Think”, Sherry Turkle uses ethos, to convince people if technology is leading us in the right direction or making the humans rely more on computers.

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
Malcolm Gladwell, a journalist, who was talking about a person named Howard Moskowitz in TED talk, who changed the world of the food industry by his unique way of thinking. Moskowitz’s innovations about having choices changed people’s way of thinking towards food tasting. During the TED talk, Gladwell talked about one of Moskowitz’s experiment with spaghetti sauce and how he started his experiment by making three groups of spaghetti sauces: plain, spicy and extra chunky and asked people which type of sauce would they prefer. Of course, people at that time didn’t even know what extra chunky spaghetti sauce is.
“Invitational rhetoric is an invitation to understanding as a means to create a relationship rooted in equality, immanent value , and self-discrimination” ( pg.38) Before understanding more about invitational rhetoric, we have to first understand what rhetoric means. Rhetoric is not a simple word to define, it’s viewed many ways. Breaking it down rhetoric can be persuading someone or even giving a different view on a certain performance such as telling your friend to choose the right classes for colleges. Invitational rhetoric is non-traditional where it will be explained, how it’s used, and how invitational rhetoric is being used in action. Traditional rhetoric is not the same as Invitational rhetoric.
Be Brave. Remember that bravery is not the lack of fear but the ability to move forward in spite of fear. “Rikki-Tikki had sprung, jumped on the snake’s back, dropped his head far between his forelegs, bitten as high up the back as he could get hold, and rolled away.” Rikki-Tikki did that even though he wasn’t sure he would have done it right if he would die or not. The theme of the fictional story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that you would do anything for the people you love.
Register and Vote In the article “Voting Turnout Statistics” by Seth Harden, it states how in America only 218,959,000 are eligible to vote, from this only 146,311,000 are registered and out of this only 126,144,000 actually voted in the 2012 presidential election. This shows how many Americans do not register to vote and even though they are registered, some do not vote. This could be the cause of a plethora of reasons, but the most likely causes are that people do not know how to register or they do not think that their vote matters. For this reason, the video “IMPORTANT - Save The Day” by Save The Day .
The Detriment of Science Exploration As described in the Leviathan by 17th century political philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, humans are "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short" (Hobbes). Hobbes believed that humans are inherently flawed, and will naturally create anarchy amongst themselves due to their nature. In the novel Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley in 1931, the world controller of the state, Mustapha Mond, manifests this idea through the rhetorical question, "What 's the point of truth or beauty of knowledge when the anthrax bombs are popping all around you"(Huxley 228)? As science was explored unrestrictedly, citizens of the World State began to fight each other. Although Mond 's argument ultimately leads to the sacrifice of
Rhetorical Analysis on Race to Nowhere The text being analyzed is a film called “Race to Nowhere” by Jessica Congdon and Vicki Abeles. In this film, the directors talk about the stress and pressure placed on students to do well and to succeed in today’s educational system. There are multiple speakers in this film including students, teachers, and parents.
In her essay, “I Had a Nice Time with you Tonight, on the app,” Jenna Wortham believes that social media apps are a helpful way to connect. Wortham swears by apps and is grateful that she can communicate with her boyfriend who is three thousand miles away. Yet some may challenge the view that Social Media apps are a reliable and effective method of communicating, Sherry Turkle stresses people are substituting online communication for face-to-face interaction. Although Turkle may only seem of concern to only a small group of people, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about the negative effects social media can have on people. In her eyes, nothing can replace person-to-person communication.
We also work with the American Red Cross, which has resulted in quarterly high school blood drives which netted nearly 1000 pints of blood for the Central Oregon area. Crook County High School has the highest amount of blood donations out of every Central Oregon School. This project is one that physically saves lives and our school’s donations are simply irreplaceable. I was also a part of the Ford Institute Leadership Program, facilitated by Rural Development Initiatives, Inc., it is a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating leaders and catalyzing rural vitality. As a member of the Prineville leadership team, for a community project we decided to raise funds and labor to resurface the 3,000-square-foot skate park for the Crook County Parks and Recreation District.
