The First Year Success Seminar is a class designed to introduce students to the Tri-C community and ease their way into college. I think that statement holds up very well, as I have definitely experienced such a thing. I think what I have learned and gained from this course has not only been insightful to me as a person, but has also strengthened my preparation for my education ahead of me. This course has taught me about what I should expect and prepare for in college, and has motivated me to be more proactive about my education. This course started, and quite frankly also ended, with fundamentals and basics for any student. My study habits have improved by utilizing advice and tips given to me, and I think that will continue to stay true throughout college. I think the goal setting mindset that I have achieved from this class is also going to be a fundamental part of how I go about my life and career. The time management skills I have will definitely aid me in balancing my free time, my job, and my education. I think all of these things will be very essential to being successful in college. The academic plan that was a part of this class was also very helpful to me, and it made me sit down and create a layout of my education for the foreseeable future. I think that doing this is a very important thing to stay organized and steady. College can be nerve-wracking, as there is so much weight on decisions and one’s future. The feeling of being prepared and ready is something every student should have. The academic plan I made is for a transfer from Tri-C to Cleveland State University. I am majoring in computer science and have two-thirds of my Associate of Science Degree completed. I plan to complete this degree at Tri-C, but simultaneously follow the pathway to transfer to Cleveland State and get a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. The classes I will be taking next semester are Trigonometry, Film Appreciation, and Astronomy. The academic plan I have set up only covers the classes I can take that are financially covered, but I plan to complete the pathway to transfer to Cleveland State in the end. I may end up taking an extra class next semester when I lay out the specific classes I need to transfer to Cleveland State.
