Did you know that people spend 75% of their adult waking time doing work-related activities? The book “Fish!” has showed me that since work is such a major part of our lives, on must love what they do. I realized that I need to choose to have fun in work for meaning and fulfillment in my life. The authors Stephen C. Lundin, Harry Paul, and John Christensen share a philosophy that has helped millions of people and organizations to change their attitude about work. The Fish! philosophy has taught me 3 main strategies to practice in my life that include choosing your attitude, The first strategy in this book was shown to the main character, Mary Jane, by Lonnie who works at the lively Pike Place Fish Market. Lonnie explained that he has taken boring work (most jobs can be seen as boring), and made it interesting. He said that there is always a choice about they way you do work- we can choose the attitude we bring to our work. This strategy is something I agree with because emotions and attitude can usually be something one can control. Positivity in one person can also spread to others easily. In my life, I can implement this by choosing to be a good attitude when around others. For example, I am not a morning person in that I get grouchy and irritable early in the day. Focusing your attention on ways to make another person’s day provides a constant flow of positive feelings. This concept is true because when I walk into a restaurant, I enjoy having a waiter ask me how I am doing, engaging me, and being cheerful towards me. For example, I’ve had a waitress who danced for me on my birthday! This created a fun memory for me that I will never forget.
