Abstract
(Pinto, 2015) study’s focus was on the specific stages that transsexual individuals go through and the events that cause this group of people to move from one stage to another. The theoretical model they came up with included five developmental stages and the triggers that helped these people move through those stages. This study is relative to gender psychology since the field is seeing more clients with this type of inquiry when seeking therapy.

Several mental health issues come up in therapy that are consequences from external forces as well as internal thought processes that transsexual people go through when coming to terms with changes they are going experiencing (Pinto, 2015). It is the clinician’s duty to help facilitate these transitions in a compassionate and unbiased environment. Interviews were done with participants explaining the study and answering any questions the participants may have had beforehand. The data was collected over a two year period from 2010 to 2012 (Pinto, 2015). Their experiences in all aspects of life were focused on in the interviewing process. This information was used in determining what each participant went through while going through each stage in their transitions.
Results
The results from the study concluded that there are five developmental stages that transsexual people go through when exploring their gender identities. Each stage was navigated differently by individuals, this was a result of what their environment were like when they were transitioning, and the actions they took in each stage of development. These actions could have been prompted by internal or external forces and were followed by improved mental health conditions.
