Float Theme Essay Alyssa Bresette In this society, we have been taught to accept others for who they are and to not try to hide or change others. In Pixar's short film Float, the father recognizes his child is unusual and wishes for his child to be like others. But he realizes he needs to embrace his child for who he is. The father feels the need to keep his child hidden. In the beginning, the father finds out that his child can fly. He then spots a family out on a stroll. As a result, the father's reaction is to hide him. This demonstrates that the father fears that his son will be rejected since he can fly, so he hides him. Another situation is when the father realizes he can fly and decides to keep his child inside. When they go outside, the father puts stones in his backpack to keep him from flying. This demonstrates that the father is concerned that his child will be able to fly. He does this because he does not want other people to judge his child so he hides him. …show more content…

For example, when they arrive at the park after strolling, the parent is unaware that his child can interact with other children. The child then begins to fly while playing in public. Because he was flying, people began to stare at him as he played in front of others. This alerted the father that his child was attempting to play with others. He grabs him and takes him away when he discovers this. The father snaps and yells, "Why can't you just be normal" as the child begins to wail. This suggests that when the child expresses himself to others, his father does not approve. He does not want him to act in this way either; all he wants is for him to change his ways because he worries about how others will see
