The progressives, wanted to create a society that acted as one. The idea of being an individual was something to be forgotten in order to create a more perfect civilization of order and pureness. During this time of the progressive movement, the rest of society began to reject it ideology of their message and goals of nonpleasure and work. The Progressive Era took place in 1890 to 1920. The Progressive Era started as a social movement and started to grow into a political movement. They also did not believe in social Darwinism. They believed that the worlds problems that society faced "(poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare)" could be prevented by having safe environments to live in, having a great education, and an efficient place to work. The "Progressives" usually lived in the big cities.
The progressive era changed the face of America it impacted so well to today's society. Without the women's suffrage and everything that happened today's society would not be the way it is. The main thing that happened in the progressive movement was eliminating corruption in the government. The progressive era was around the 20th century. Without the progressive era our society would be so different.
It took place from 1890 to 1920. This Era was a time of reform movements aimed at addressing the problems in American society. This includes problems with the food industries, working conditions, and women’s rights. Before the Progressive Era reforms, the food quality, specifically in the meatpacking industry, was very unhealthy.
3. The American people began to embrace the role of government during the progressive era to address poverty, poor health, violence, greed, racism, and class warfare. The American people came to understand that government was best positioned to improve education for regular Americans, protect them from street gangs and mobsters, ensure that that the workplace was safe, and that government was not rampant with corruption. The Progressive Era, from 1900-1917, was a time when problems were solved, tactics were used to solve them, and foundations were laid for future reforms. During this time, steps and precautions were laid that regulated business, rights, government, and life as we know it. A major goal of this time was the exploitation of the corrupt aspects of the government. After the goals and reforms were met during this time, America became better and better in the eyes of reform groups and activists.
The cause of the Progressive Era was the Gilded Age, which began during the 1870s. During this age, the United States suffered from extreme corruption in government. This was because of the rising power of political machines and monopolies. Many politicians favored big businesses and through their political power, they were able to give incentives to those who supported their corruption. Due to these infuriating situations, Americans decided that in order for there to be a change in society, the government had to get involved, thus the beginning of the Progressive Era.
The Progressive Era was a big shift in US history because this was a time in which the government was more involved in things like social reforms. During this era, the US government was getting bigger and taking on more responsibility. Because of the expansion of urbanization and industrialization, there was an oil demand. With the expansion of urbanization and industrialization, there were more job opportunities for Americans. The government got involved more by giving Americans opportunities and jobs.
The Progressive Era occurred during the 1890s to the 1920s, during this time there was an urge to create a better social and political life for Americans. 15 million immigrants traveling from all different parts of the world arrived here in the United States (https://www.loc.gov). President Theodore Roosevelt was in office for the majority of this era (1901-1909) . Although there was plenty of progress in the way Americans lived they still faced issues such as overpopulation, slow innovation, women's suffrage, economic reform, poverty, and conservatism. The Progressive Era The Progressive Era was a time when America had begun a thirst for change in its government as well as its people. Politicians wanted a more modern government that searched to answer the social problems that were arising with the many new and old immigrants that no resided in the U.S. On the other hand, workers demanded more rights in the workplace and better-working conditions. Women wanted to look for new activities outside the home because a life inside a home was becoming dull to them. Progressives during this era were striving for progress in their government and were very diverse in how they obtained this change.
The Progressive Era was a period in the United States that changed the way people thought about things including labor and voting rights, politics, education, industry, etc. A vast amount of policies and laws came out of the Progressive Era that improved the lives of individual people and society. The policies that were established then continue to shape the U.S. government and economy today, including child labor and education laws, food-safety requirements, and granting women’s rights. Workplaces and other environments throughout society began to be perceived as humane, having no children working and no undesirable bones in the meat sent to be sold. During the progressive era our country faced many problems. The rise of substantial businesses caused industrial problems. Women suffrage, alcohol, child labor, and safety issues caused social problems. The necessitation of citizens in government decisions also caused political problems. Progressives were people who wanted to solve all of these quandaries.
The Progressive era was a period of widespread activism and political reform across the United States, from the 1900s to 1920s. The goal was to end abuse of power (monopolies, unfair privilege and corruption), and to replace corrupt power with humane institutions, apply scientific principles and efficient management to economic, social, and political institutions. Through the Progressive Era they were able to create the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Amendment. The 16th Amendment allowed income tax, the 17th Amendment allowed the direct election of senators, the 18th Amendment allowed prohibition (prohibition is the manufacturing and sale of alcohol, especially in the US between 1920 and 1933), and the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote.
