One aspect of early civilizations that impacted their survival was the civilization’s animals.. The quantity and type of animal was crucial in supplying food and materials for an entire community. “Instead of having to go out to hunt, you have a dependable meat supply on the hoof,” (PBS). The ability to domesticate animals was applicable in the Middle East. These civilizations had access to animals such as goats, sheep, and horses for meat, milk, clothing material, and farm labor.
Following Michael Pollan’s view in his book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, he covers the realm of concentrated animal feedlot operations (COFAs) in his extensive spiel about the overarching concept of corn in our society. He discusses his purchased steer, number 534, as he accompanies its journey through the system. In the beginning 534 enjoyed his life on a green pasture with his mother for six months, until he became strong and bulky enough to get a change of scenery. He was then transferred to a lovely place called a backgrounding pen; where 534 learned to live in a pen, eat from a trough, and to consume a new diet. Pollan’s observational study lead him to find many complications regarding COFAs and their effect on the environment.
Ancient civilizations all developed near a source of water, where producing crops was not a concern. Since people did not need to move place to place for food, they could settle down and form civilizations. Geography was a major reason the ancient civilizations and the people living there
In the articles “An Animals Place,” by Michael Pollan, and “The Omnivore’s Delusion: Against the Agri-intellectuals,” by Blake Hurst, the controversial methods of farming in today’s society are examined. Modern farming methods are a relevant topic of discussion because the foods that people consume have a direct impact on their health, therefore they should be aware of the procedures that farming methods employ. Pollan and Hurst have differing beliefs on farming methods, but similar interests in the environment, people, and animals. In the article “An Animals Place,” the author, Michael Pollan sheds light on the barbaric institution of American meat-packing.
The Nutty Professor Why is agriculture so important? Agriculture is the process of farming animals and plants for human consumption. This process is important because it controls what we put into our body. Naturally, any change made in this field affects everyone. One man made significant contributions to this practice.
In three of the world's oldest civilizations, the development of Agriculture proved surprisingly similar. Despite long distances between each culture, especially in the case of Mesoamerica, all three developed “staple” crops that proved very important for their food sources (BBC, FAO, Nair, National Geographic). While China and the Indus River Valley domesticated various animals for food, Mesoamerica did not rely on domesticated animals nearly as much (BBC, Nair), not even for labor (FAO). Although the types of crops they grew resulted in different diets for all three civilizations, the Neolithic Revolution remained the fundamental basis for all their nutritional development (BBC, FAO, Nair). Even with various different features in climate,
Have you ever thought about the jobs that agriculture provides? Agriculture gives us food, clothing, and jobs? Correct! Agriculture reflects on everyone’s job, especially those who govern agriculture daily. Agriculture is the base of society itself, and is a very reliable source.
The demise of the hunter gather society is a result of the beginning of an ice age and the need for a reliable food source. In turn, they completely reinvented basic means for obtaining food through the development of agriculture, refocusing energies to innovations and cultural development. The methods that hunter gather societies used to track food was not time efficient as stated in the Guns, Germs, and Steel video with Jared Diamond. It is not productive to track down each animal, spot the quarry, and use primitive bows and arrows for it is not guaranteed capture.
Thesis There is a growing consent that factory farming of animals or concentrated animal feeding operations is morally
There is an important question many people today wonder; I found that there are several people who see how showing livestock affects kids in school and in life. I chose this topic because so many people think that showing livestock is just a waste of time and money, but they have no idea what it entails. Other people don’t realize that showing livestock isn’t about the money or just having a pet. I am writing this paper because everybody should know that showing isn’t about having a pet, it’s about gaining responsibilities and learning new things that can help you later in life. Showing livestock helps children go farther in life because it teaches them more responsibility, they work harder, and they never give up on their dreams.

19- Overall/Summary Questions In response to Yali’s question, everything came down to the location and settlement of people back in ancient times. Since some areas were not suitable for farming, they remained hunter-gatherers and carried on with their lives. Like New Guinea, these were the countries that would soon be backed-up on all the technological innovations and items produced that were brought into the world later on. Since food production was what off-set these creations, those regions that had perfect climate year-round had many advantages over others.
