Foreign Language Requirements Around the U.S students are required to take a foreign language class, but there are some people who do not agree with this concept. In the article “Foreign Language Requirements for University Students: Are These Classes Necessary?” an article by Larry Raszuni who is one the people who disagrees with the concept of taking a foreign language, explains why he disagrees and others agree to this need. Raszuni states that English is the most common used language around the world and thinks that taking a foreign language is a waste of a students’ time. Even though he makes some good points, I disagree with Raszuni’s concept which states that these classes are not necessary. For example, you cannot properly understand America’s culture if you do not understand English, because you would be missing an aspect on how the culture is like. Also, whenever you travel to a country you know the language of, it would become easier for you to learn their culture by communicating with the people who know the foreign language. Furthermore, you would be able to explore what kinds of entertainment the culture has. For example, being able to watch movies and listen to music in that language.
