As mentioned earlier, Child abuse and neglect cases are complex matters. The role of a forensic evaluator in these matters is to systematically and objectively evaluate the child and or caregivers involved, to formulate understanding of the mental status and or cognitive as well as psychological capacities of the involved, and to present the information to the court and/or CP&P to assist them in making decisions and case planning. The guiding principle in child welfare matters are always, safety, permanency and well being of the child. The forensic evaluator is required to base his opinion and recommendations on scientifically reliable and validated methods and principles with reasonable degree of psychological and clinical certainty. I maintain competency in the area of child protection matters both in terms of law and regulations a well as professional knowledge. I regularly review laws and regulations governing child protection. I maintain my specialized competency through continued training and education in the specialized field. I regularly read scientific and reliable professional materials, participation in credentialed workshops, and engage in peer review and supervision. The emphasis of my professional practice is to use empirically based procedures and scientifically validated tests. I strive to maintain cultural competency and competency in working with specific populations. This also includes utilizing of valid and appropriate tests and norms. My professional training in neuropsychology has helped me to evaluate children and adults with special needs like developmental delays, developmental disability, neurological problems etc. I have training to identify neurocognitive factors and their interaction with psychiatric/psychological factors. I have experience working with children and adults from different cultural and language backgrounds.
