Being a Forensic Science Technician is not an easy job, you have to be able to work under pressure and in high stress environments. A lot of what Forensic Technicians do is complicated, such as, obtaining evidence from crime scenes, collecting fingerprints to find the suspect or suspects, finding someones cause of death and what weapons were used to kill them and a lot more. It is a tedious job that deals with hours in the office, frustrating dead ends, and sometimes no leads to who the suspect is. The work environment for Forensic Technicians changes day by day. First, they could be outside in any type of weather, whether it is pouring rain or snowing. They will do whatever it takes to collect their evidence. University of Nebraska at Lincoln offers a four year college plan to become a Forensic Technician (more of a CSI). The major subjects you would have to take are chemistry, calculus, and physics. They also sometimes have a bachelor in Natural Sciences. Also Nebraska Wesleyan University offers a four year for Forensic Technicians. The average wage for Forensic Technicians is $56,750, yet half of the workers got $33,860, and the highest got $97,400.
The job outlook for this career is a lot higher than most, from 2016 to 2026 there should be a 17% increase, creating about 2,700 jobs.
For this job there is no specific place to live but you would probably want to live in a big city, with a high crime rate. You would not want to live in a small town because there would be no jobs open for you and in bigger cities there are more opportunities.
I want to live in Lincoln, Nebraska for this career. I think there will be more job opportunities in the long run, and there will be more job offers by the time I graduate
