The 1940s the decade of great war, new fashion, great music, rough times and revolutionary technology, All came together to create the “Forties” that we know today.
Although most of the decade was consumed by World War II it self stretching from 1939 all the way through 1945 the decade was still able to produce a new way of living, new and better ideas along with technology and probably the most important help America get back on its feet from a very rough time also known as the great depression.

The restrictions were not as bad as they were for women. Suit pockets could not have flaps, trousers could not be more the 19 inches around or be cuffed, and suits were sold without vests . With this the cuffed look was so popular that men quickly figured out you could purchase longer length pants and cuff them at home. This was all during the war. The double breasted suits were forbidden during the war except for formal occasions such as weddings. Most men’s kept their clothing from the 1930s and wore them through the early ’40s war years. Tailors became skilled at repairing or repurposing double breasted suit jackets from the 1930s into single breasted jackets or sport coats. It was a sign of support for the war to be seen in your pre-war suits. Another influence for men's clothing and popular design in the 1940s was war time clothing this influenced men’s fashion design after the war by coping or modifying uniforms into civilian clothes. Using trench coats, bomber jackets, knit undershirts, pea coats, chino pants and aviator glasses all this came from World war II military clothing. From the early 1800's scientists had imagined what it would be like to have a machine that could compute complex mathematical solutions. This dream finally came true in 1946 when the first all electronic digital computer was developed. Some other inventions that took place being invented in the 1940s would be the the television. The television actually was invented in the late 1930s but did not gain much popularity at the start of the decade. When World War II began, production of televisions and other electronics was stopped in order to devote factories efforts to the war effort.
