Sometimes, politically powerful men do unexpected things. Lyndon Baines Johnson was a perfect example of this. He was a true Texan, born on a farm near Stonewall, Texas. He got a went to college and became a teacher who put everything into his work. Not too long after, he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives where he stayed for eleven years.
The direct primary during the Progressive reform impacted competition in American elections. The American electoral system is the primary mechanism of democratic control, and democracy requires choice that requires competition. During the Progressive era, single parties prioritized the wealthy elite over the needs and wants of the people, therefore creating a system called Party Boss. To eliminate this system, the progressives wanted to enhance competition and popular choice by emphasizing selecting a party nominee for federal and state through a direct primary. Therefore, direct primaries impacted party competition and strengthen democracy through the extension of two party competition and the rise of incumbency.
In order to make connections to the previous lesson, students will recall information that was previously learned, such as the definition of main idea and detail, explain the ways to identify the main idea, and describe details in a story. Making connections to skills they have previously learned adds value to the content the students are learning. I will model examples, guide instruction, and allow students to collaborate with peers in order to support student learning until they are able to identify the main idea and describe supporting details on their own. There will be differentiated instruction and assessments for students on different learning levels. It is important to teach to the students’ learning needs in order to see progress in all students.
Gopnik’s article also talks heavily about children experiments that include them learning things without any clear instruction. Educational philosophy and teaching styles are two aspects of adult learning that influence the teaching-learning transaction in colleges and universities. The educational philosophy can inform the educator with strategies and methods for implementing adult learning principles. Floyd (2010) described the importance of educators knowing their educational philosophy because self-examination and critical inspection of practices will create a consciousness of some unconscious beliefs that affect teaching practice.(1,2) The literature on educational philosophy explains, “When an adult educator engages in the practice of education, certain beliefs about life in general are applied to the practice” . Therefore, educators hold beliefs about how adults learn, how they should be taught, and what instructional practice should look like.

The unique aspects which are most salient for me are, first, the Andragogy theory (model); the idea of adult learners learning through enriched opportunities to collaborate in what they are learning and why they are learning it. The authors note, if the adult learner understands the value of what they are learning and it can be relatable to prior life experiences, they tend to be more motivated and retain the information.
