Foundational Learning Theories for Adults

Learning theories for adults are not just about ideas as to how adults must learn. These theories are used so that an instructional designer can plan a course in facilitating the learning process of the adult learners. Hence, devising an instructional strategy that aligns with real learning contexts is a prerequisite. The theory of Andragogy presupposes that adults learners need to know why the need to learn something and that these type of learners learn experientially (Culatta, 2015). Aside from that, adults usually see learning as a problem-solving, and they can learn best when the topic is of immediate value or is relevant to them.
