Frank Mccourt Research Paper

Frank McCourt, an incredible writer and outstanding teacher, was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 19th, 1930. His mother, Angela Sheehan, and his father, Malachy McCourt, had seven children including Frank as the eldest. Mrs. Angela Sheehan and Mr. Malachy McCourt both met and married each other in New York in hopes of settling there in order to have a better life. However, after four years, Margaret, one of the young sisters of Frank, died leading to the whole family in complete depression. Before Margaret’s tragedy, the family already had much struggle in making ends meet; therefore, once one of their loved ones died, they had a much more difficult time surviving. As a result, their parents decided to move from New York to Limerick, Ireland, Angela Sheehan’s hometown. Unfortunately such decision caused the family to experience further poverty. At this moment, Frank McCourt had realized that his dream was to one day return back to America.

Angela McCourt had a miscarriage. In addition, after a few years, Frank falls ill with typhoid fever and has to stay at the hospital for a couple of months. In order to occupy himself, he begins reading multiple sources such as newspapers and Shakespeare leading him to discover his gift for language. As a result to such devastating events, Mr. Malachy McCourt leaves Limerick and travels to Liverpool, England in order to search for a better job to support his family. After two years when Frank was 14 years old, Mr. Malachy McCourt stopped communicating with his family. The same year, Frank left school in order to earn some money for both his family and his dream. He began working for multiple people and often times committing theft in order to help keep his family
