“One of the most controversial presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is also one of the presidential giants. Not only did he serve much longer than any other president, but he led the country during two of its most extreme crisis: the worst depression in modern times and the worst war of all time.”(Bowman)
Franklin D. Roosevelt was born January 30. 1812 in Hyde Park, New York. He was the only son of James and Sara Delano Roosevelt.(Friedel) Roosevelt was the descendant of a Dutchman. He grew up in a very wealthy family, his father was a railroad executive and his mother was member of rich family.(Bowman) Franklin Roosevelt is a distant cousin from former president Theodore Roosevelt. He was a democratic man compared to Theodore who was a Republican.(President) He attended Harvard and then Columbia Law School where he practiced law.(Nelson) Franklin D. Roosevelt transformed the way in which the American federal government functioned through his New Deal efforts and the way he established America as a prominent leader on the world stage during World War II.

He and his cabinet launched a second, more aggressive series of federal programs most commonly known as the second New Deal. He created the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to provide jobs for unemployed people. The WPA focused on building things like post offices, bridges, schools, highways, and parks.(Bowman) The WPA also gave work to artists and writers. Roosevelt also introduced the National Labor Relations Act. This created the National Labor Relations Board to supervise union elections and prevent businesses from treating workers unfairly.
