Franklin Delano Roosevelt is considered one of the greatest presidents ever. He did a lot for the country, including leading it through its greatest domestic crisis (the Great Depression), with the exception of the civil war. He also led it through its greatest foreign crisis (World War II).
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, nicknamed FDR, was born on January 30,1882, in Hyde Park, New York. His parents were James and Sara Roosevelt. He was an only child and liked swimming and boating as a kid. He and Mrs. Roosevelt had six children; however, one died in infancy. His children were Anna, James, Franklin (died in infancy), Elliott, Franklin (different Franklin who did not die in infancy), and John.
In 1921, tragedy struck. FDR was vacationing in Campobello Island when he contracted polio, an incurable disease that left him paralyzed from the waist down. However, he didn’t let this disaster bring him down. He spent many years in Warm Springs, Georgia, going through a very difficult rehabilitation process. With the support of his wife, children, and close friends, FDR was eventually able to regain some use of his legs and go back into politics. FDR had many different jobs before he was elected president. From 1907-1910, he worked at a Wall Street law firm, but he did not like being a lawyer. From a young age, he had always admired his cousin Theodore Roosevelt, and he wanted to follow in his cousin’s footsteps by going into politics. In 1910, he won election to the New York state senate by over 1,000 votes, and he was re-elected in 1912. Then, in 1913, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy, a position he held from 1913 to 1920. He greatly enjoyed
