In Franny and Zooey by J.D Salinger Franny was religiously confused because she has never forgiven Seymour. Seymour has always been the one to paint the path of religion ever since Franny and Zooey were younger, so when Seymour killed himself Zooey was able to forgive him, but Franny was unable to forgive him and that lead her to her religious breakdown. Religion is very important in Franny and Zooey because Seymour, being the oldest, taught them everything from the jesus prayer, to the fat lady. So when Seymour past, Franny held on to these ideas and concepts in hope that she would be able to talk to him and perhaps forgive him. Also when Zooey would try and help Franny through her religious breakdown she would just keep saying “ I want to speak to Seymour,” this shows that not forgiving Seymour is the main cause of her being religiously confused because Franny saw Seymour as the all knowing when it comes to religion and when then when that part of your life just leaves you end up questioning everything you ever thought you knew. The people in Franny’s life are not helping her situation either because,they also have never forgiven Seymour, Lane is sorta that egotistical self absorbed character that doesn't believe in a God or higher power at all, and the closest person in her family to Seymour is Buddy and he’s never around so the only person left is Zooey. Zooey is the only one in the Glass family that has forgiven Seymour so he is also the only one that can help Franny through her breakdown about being religiously confused because of being the only one that has forgiven
