This essay was written by an individual who described himself as being a part of a racially and culturally mixed family. His family moved from a northern state to Kentucky where his parents vowed not to give their energies to anything that not was not interracial, interdenominational and offering life changes through Jesus. Relationships played a key part in his life. The families especially his mother’s relationship with an African-American woman Shirley Raglan who was dying of cancer. Shirley was the wife of a pastor James Raglan. James was the pastor of one of the largest African-American churches in their town. Fred Flucker was as he recalls the first person outside his family to love him. Fred was an African-American friend from school. They played together and ran together going to concerts and summer camp together. A rare true friendship that is important during one’s life.
