Though softball and baseball have many similarities, they also have many differences. The differences include: the ball, bat, baseline, pitching, and base running. However, the similarities include: the bat, fielders, batting, and outs needed.

In both softball and baseball there are nine fielders. There are six infielders and three outfielders. In baseball there are nine innings and in softball there are seven innings. You need three outs to end each inning. One of the most important players in the game is the pitcher. In baseball the pitcher throws overhand from sixty feet and six inches. When you are batting there are four balls and three strikes. When you have four balls it means you get to go to first base. When you get three strikes you are out. In professional baseball, only wooden bats can be used. However, in high school and college baseball aluminum bats can be used. Baseball bats can not be any longer than forty two inches. Softball bats are commonly made of composite materials. They are also made out of aluminum. A softball bat cannot be any longer than thirty four inches.

A softball is between eleven and twelve inches in circumference. It can be pitched at a speed between about sixty and seventy miles per hour. It is much less dense than a baseball. Therefore, it leaves a bigger bruise. A baseball is nine inches in circumference. It can be pitched at about one hundred miles per hour.

In softball the baseline is sixty feet. There is a double first base for safety reasons. When you are baserunning you are able to steal bases. However, there are rules to stealing the bases. You are only allowed to get off the base when the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand. If the pitcher has the ball in the circle you must be on the base.
