In the tragic play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, many acts of violence are interwoven throughout the plot. In this play, there are many suspects who were involved in the situation and are to blame. However, there is one individual who should be held most responsible. The many acts of violence this person caused strengthened the feud between the Capulets and Montagues, thus enabling future events to take place. This feud ultimately led to the deaths of Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, and Paris. As a result of this individual’s poor decisions, a terrible tragedy occurred. This individual deserves a harsh punishment for the inexcusable actions which led to unnecessary bloodshed. It is clear that Friar Lawrence is most to blame for the tragedy because he married Romeo and Juliet, provided the potion for Juliet to drink, and fled the scene when Romeo and Juliet committed suicide. Friar Lawrence is to blame because he married Romeo and Juliet during a time when he was fully aware of the violent feud between the Capulets and Montagues. Due to Friar Lawrence’s poor decisions throughout the play, he indirectly strengthened the feud of the Capulets and the Montagues which led to the deaths of Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, and Paris. Friar Lawrence’s punishment will be community service. He needs to dedicate his time to help settle conflicts between families by encouraging open discussions and working with each family member to achieve their goals. In addition, he will have to work with Prince Escalus to prevent any future problems in Verona so that the same mistakes are not
