One of William Shakespeare’s strong suits is making in depth characters in his writing. Friar Lawrence is the main lead character in the play, Romeo and Juliet. He is a very rational character and he shows this when Friar Lawrence scolds Romeo for saying he has fallen in love again, days after saying he was in love with Rosaline (Shakespeare 100). This shows that Friar Lawrence is a very rational thinker and doesn’t like to act on whimsy and he doesn’t want Romeo to either. This is further proven when Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that he has been banished from Verona. The Friar tells Romeo to be happy that he's not getting executed and there is still an opportunity for him to be with Juliet and bring peace to Verona (3.3.109-158). The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about knowing what you do in a moment has consequences, whether it be good or bad. The main theme in Romeo and Juliet is “actions have consequences”. For example, in Act 3 Scene 1, Tybalt kills Mercutio and in a fit of rage, Romeo kills Tybalt. This is a big turning point in the story because Romeo gets exiled for this and it completely ruins any plan he had because he is no longer alone in the streets of Verona and that is where Juliet is. It completely changes what the audience thought the ending would have been. Another time is when Friar Lawrence marries Romeo and Juliet. He didn’t think of the possible consequences, and it affected the entire kingdom of Verona and caused the death of 6 different characters. In conclusion, the story of Romeo and Juliet is a lesson in knowing that your actions have consequences, whether it be good or
