Although the Friar is written as a holy man and a pillar of support in the book, he does have some shortcomings that lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence in “Romeo and Juliet” written by Shakespeare knew Romeo most likely would have only liked Juliet for her looks, but he still decides to marry them instead of just talking to Romeo about his feelings towards Juliet. Be strong and prosperous”(4.1.124) These words show how ok and calm the friar was as he gave her that potion, encouraging her to go through with the plan he made even though so many things could go wrong with the potion. The ignorant acts of the friar lead him to not bother to make an attempt to prolong the wedding and also encourages Juliet to go through with his plan to drink the potion. Friar Lawrence has shown acts of irresponsibility by leaving Suicidal Juliet at the mausoleum and only telling the truth about Romeo and Juliet after they are both dead. If friar Lawrence had just been responsible enough to tell Romeo and Juliet's marriage, both of the teens would still be alive, but he only chose to tell the truth after both Romeo and Juliet were lost. Friar Lawrence should have the most of the blame be put on him for the losses of Romeo and Juliet due to him being ignorant, irresponsible, and impulsive.
