The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was a movement for modern day literature. It tells the story between the disputing families the Capulets and the Montagues. The tragic end to their lives caused a new type of understanding within the families, but it brought up a question. Who else is responsible for the tragic events? The most obvious answer is the families but, there is another character who made the majority of the mistakes. It is Friar Lawrence, he is at fault for the entire tragedy. Friar Lawrence is directly at fault for Romeo and Juliet’s death since he wedded them, and gave Juliet the potion. Friar Laurance also marries Romeo and Juliet even though he thinks it will end bad, and knows their families history. Besides that, he marries them anyway hoping that it will end the fighting and hetred between the two families. When Romeo asks Friar Laurance to marry him and Juliet he does not think it is a good idea. As Act 2, Scene 3 says, "O, she knew well, Thy love did read by rote and could not spell." But, Tybalt's is also to blame in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo kills Tybalt right after marrying Juliet and this story starts to have a downfall. As Tybalt in Act 1, Scene 1 states, “ What, art thou drawn among these heartless hinds?" Tybalt makes fun of Benvolio for trying to stop the fight. Almost immediately you see that he is a arrogant and impulsive character. Because of this, he gets in a fight with Romeo and is slain. This is the main reason for Romeos eventual banishment. Although this caused a multitude of problems, he did not cause the majority. If the Friar did not wed Romeo and Juliet they would not have a problem with the banishment.
